What Projects Benefit from a
KeenLook Review?
Any commercial or government building or renovation project that requires the services of an architect and/or engineer!
Over the past 18 years, we have participated in reviewing over 220 projects. For a complete list, see:
Size of Projects
We have reviewed projects as small as $390,000. Although we have worked on projects with construction budgets in excess of a billion dollars, most of them have fallen in the $4 to $30 million dollar range. However, projects of all sizes can benefit from a KeenLook coordination review.
Types of Projects
Almost every construction project for a commercial or government building would benefit from a KeenLook coordination review.
The Nigro Firm has reviewed drawings and specifications for a large number of commercial and government buildings, dealing with almost every type, including:
Hospitals and Medical Facilities
Hospitals and medical buildings benefit greatly from cross discipline construction reviews due to their complex interactions between disciplines. To name just a few, we performed reviews on the Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, the west tower expansion of the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, and the Navy Medical Center Building 215.

Condos and Apartment Buildings and Housing Developments
Large housing structures with multiple floors require elaborate plumbing, electrical and HVAC relationships. You can reduce build time and change orders with a comprehensive review. We've reviewed over 20 of these types of structures plus a large number of university/college dormitories. A few examples are the Wilshire-Vermont Housing in Los Angeles, Lafayette Court Townhouses for the Baltimore Housing Authority, and many buildings for the Irvine Apartment Communities (in Irvine, CA) and Vail Properties (in Vail, CO).
Military and Other Government Buildings
The Nigro Firm has reviewed numerous government and military buildings; in fact, some agencies actually require a review, since in the past they have proved to be beneficial and cost effective. For example, the Nigro Firm reviewed construction documents for the LAPD Police headquarters building, the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse in Little Rock, AR and a large number of fire stations for the City of Seattle.
K-12 Schools

Coordination reviews, if applied to their fullest extent, can save school districts tons of money by reducing change orders and decreasing labor hours. We've had the pleasure of doing this 32 times for schools all across the county. Some of the schools we've reviewed are the Snohomish High School in Seattle, the addition and modernization of Jacob E. Manch Elementary School in Las Vegas, and Princeton Day School in New York City.
University Buildings
The Nigro Firm has participated in numerous quality reviews on university and university related structures. In just the past few years, the Nigro Firm has reviewed construction documents for a building on the Barnard College campus and multiple buildings have been reviewed for the University of Texas, the University of Maryland, and the University of Washington. And we haven't been shy about doing work in our home state of Utah: Utah State University and Southern Utah University.
Transportation Centers and Parking Structures
We have reviewed construction documents for parking structures for Utah State University and a rental car facility for the FLL International Airport.
Museums, Art Centers and Theatres
These types of buildings are usually quite unique with complicated building instructions, so they are perfect projects for review. The Nigro Firm has reviewed construction documents for the Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art and the Peabody Essex Museum projects.
Stadiums and Sports Arenas
Stadium and sports arenas are huge, complicated projects with an almost unlimited potential for error. Cross discipline reviews can help pin point specific problem areas as well as highlight large inconsistencies, errors and omissions. Our most notable stadium review was for the new Yankee Stadium.
Hotels and Resorts

Large hotels and five star resorts demand perfection. In the last few years, we have reviewed construction documents for the Ritz Carlton Residences, Phase II, Bldg D of the Stowe Mountain Lodge, the Crystal Peak Lodge and some high exposure projects in Dubai.
Industrial Buildings, Supply Centers and Warehouses
Large buildings used for manufacturing, shipping or other industrial use require a large investment; however, build costs can be decreased with the use of a review. We performed reviews for the Hershey Supply Center structure as well as the Plant/Supply Services Relocation project in the Virginia Beach School District. Washington State University's Records Maint. Material Storage & Recycle Building also benefited from one of our coordination reviews.
Airport Terminals
Constructing an airport or airport addition can be extremely stressful if the construction documents are full of inconsistencies and errors. Reviews for the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the SEA-TAC International Airport, and the Baltimore-Washington International Airport are just a trio of examples of airport projects that the Nigro Firm has been involved in.
Office Buildings
Large, multi floored office buildings can go up faster if the construction documents are as accurate as possible. We have performed quality review services for the GSA Mary E. Switzer Office Bldg, a Kuwait Petroleum Corporation Oil Sector Complex office building, the Unified Communications Center for TRW, and many university related office buildings.
Churches
Large churches and religious buildings can greatly reduce build costs with the application of a comprehensive review; the Nigro Firm has participated in reviews for the Springville LDS Church and the Silver Creek LDS Church.

Recreational Facilities
In addition to stadiums (see above), we've also reviewed other types of recreational facilities. Some examples are the Recreational Sports Fitness Facilities Expansion, Recreation and Wellnes Center, Conibear Shellhouse Renovation & Addition, and the Fisheries Building... all for the University of Washington. A few others were done for others, for example, Campus Recreation Center for the University of Maryland and the Brewer Field House Addition & Renovation for the University of Missouri.
Research & Laboratory Facilities
Research and laboratory facilities are incredibly intricate, often with extra plumbing, HVAC, and electrical requirements. Mistakes in the drawings for these types of projects can be very, very expensive and time consuming to fix in the field in the middle of construction. A few of the many laboratories that we have reviewed include the Advanced Technology Lab for the National Institute of Standards, Center for Drug Evaluation & Research for the FDA, Biological Sciences Wet Lab Building for the University of Texas at Austin, and the Oceanography Research Laboratory for the University of Washington.
Justice Centers and Prisons
These complex projects benefit a great deal from a coordination review. A few examples of projects we've reviewed include the West Valley Detention Center in San Bernandino, CA, a new Justice Center for West Jordan City, UT, and the Oklahoma Judicial Center for the State of Oklahoma.
Nursing Homes & Senior Centers
These projects, that are a hybrid between medical centers and apartment/condo type buildings, must meet a large number of needs of their occupants. A coordination review prior to beginning construction will ensure that the building(s) will function exactly as intended. A couple of examples of projects that the Nigro Firm has reviewed are The Fox Hill Senior Center in Florida as well as the infrastructure improvements for the Minnesota Veterans Home.
Disclaimer
Note that a project's inclusion in this list does not imply that the building owners directly contracted with the Nigro Firm to perform review services. They are placed here to show the variety of building types that we have been involved in reviewing, as either the "prime" consultant or as a "sub" consultant.
